Former Nigeria Minister of Agriculture Akinwunmi Adeshina has celebrated his 5th year as president of the Africa Development bank (AFDB), in spite of US government move to push for a fresh probe against him on allegations of corruption.

Adeshina took to his verified twitter handle to celebrate his uninterrupted tenure at the AFDB in the last five years while thanking those who supported him on his journey so far at the bank.

Earlier this month, the ethics committee of the board of directors of the bank absolved Mr Adeshina of any wrong doing in a petition which accused him of violating the code of conduct of the bank brought against him by a group of concerned staff of the bank.

The committee headed by the bank's executive director, a Japanese Mr Takuji Yano described the allegations as spurious and unfounded thereby giving him a clean slate.

However, what appears to be a thorough investigation by the ethics committees following series of meetings reviewing and screening documents, was faulted by the US government.

In a letter on May the 22nd the US government through its secretary, department of treasury Steven Munchin expressed doubts on the integrity of the committee outcome.

The US government picked holes in the committee's decision to exonerate Adeshina of all the 16  allegations brought against him.

Nevertheless, following Adesina'a tweet, many Nigerians are hopeful that he will seek a re-election and return as AFDB president.
